American journalist awarded in 2008 with the National Magazine Award, currently working for Rolling Stone magazine. As an essayist, he has dealt with various topics: politics, media, finance and sports. His peculiar style is difficult to define, but could be described as a mixture of equal parts of Mencken, Hunter S. Thompson and the stark cynicism of generation X. He is an atheist and, although not related to the skeptical movement, has written about the fundamentalism and conspiracy theories about 9/11. For example, in his book The Great Mental Disorder. The true history of war, politics and religion (2009), infiltrated the congregation of preacher John Hagee and uncovered his links with the Israeli lobby. Some of Taibbi's works, such as his satirical article "52 funny things about the next death of the Pope" (2005) or his essays The Exile: Sex, drugs and defamation in the new Russia (2000) or Cleptopía (2010), in whose pages came to refer to Alan Greenspan as "the greatest idiot in the universe," have sparked great controversy. Taibbi is probably the only person who can write a phrase that includes the words "swap coverage for non-payment" and "fucking asshole," and make it sound reasonable.
