Miguel Barnet (Havana, 1940) is a Cuban poet, narrator, essayist and ethnologist, a disciple of Fernando Ortiz and a collaborator of Alejo Carpentier. His novels-testimony, in which he examines various moments in the island's history through the oral narration of its protagonists, are an inexcusable milestone within the panorama of 20th century Spanish literature.
