Patrul Rinpoche (1808-1887) was one of the most extraordinary masters of his time. He was a supporter of numerous traditions and especially of the Longchen Ñingtig. He was one of the three great founding masters of the non-sectarian (rime) movement of Tibetan Buddhism. He wrote numerous comments, advice on practice and poetic texts. He preferred to live like a wandering yogi to reside in a monastery.
