French anthropologist born in 1949 in Paris, studied philosophy at the École Normale Supérieure and ethnology at the École Pratique des Hautes Études. He did his thesis under the direction of Claude Lévi-Strauss and was also influenced by Gregory Bateson and Maurice Godelier. He is currently a professor at the Collège de France, and has written, among other books, Beyond nature and culture, published by our publishing label.
