Pierre Bouretz

Born in 1958, is director of studies at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) and director of the Centre d'Etudes des Faits Interdisciplinaires Religieux (CEIFR). His research interests revolve around the medieval Jewish philosophy and Arabic issues and deal with issues such as the conflict between law and reason, or the relationship between religion and politics or between the art of writing and argumentation theory. He has devoted special attention to the deconstruction and reconstruction of modern reason and ways to practice philosophy, devoting significant work to the work of Max Weber and Hannah Arendt.

His books include: Les promesses du monde. Philosophy of Max Weber (1996), Qu'apelle-t-on philosopher? (2006), Les Lumières du messianism (2008) and D'un ton guerrier in philosophie. Habermas, Derrida & Co. (2010).
