Jules Régis Debray (Paris, September 2, 1940) is a French philosopher and writer, from a wealthy bourgeois family. He received his doctorate at the Normal College, where he later taught. He was a faithful follower of Marxist Louis Althusser, plus a friend of Fidel Castro and Ernesto Guevara. In 1967 he wrote his first book, called Revolution in the Revolution. He was a member of the French Socialist Party, of which he left behind ideological differences with former President François Mitterrand.
