Robert Browning

Robert Browning (Camberwell, 1812-Venice, 1889) British writer. He is one of the best English poets of the 19th century and the creator of the dramatic monologue technique. He started writing poetry under the influence of Shelley. From Paracelsus (1835) and Sordello (1840), he focused on situations and historical figures. He obtained the recognition with Bells and grenades (1841-1846). In Florence he wrote Christmas Eve and Easter (1850) and Men and Women (1855). In 1861 he returned to London, where he published (1864) and his masterpiece, The Ring and the Book (1868-1869). Also worthy of mention is his work Idilios dramáticos (1879).
