Born in 1931, is Emeritus Professor of General Linguistics at the University of Oxford. His research in linguistic theory published over the last 25 years mark a significant distancing from the prevailing orthodox linguistics during the twentieth century. Harris taught at numerous universities in England, America and Asia and is the founder and editor of the journal "Language & Comunication". He is the author of many books, including The Language Makers, The Language Machine, The Origin of Writing and Language, Saussure and Wittgenstein.
