Shizuteru Ueda

Shizuteru Ueda (Tokyo, 1926) studied philosophy at Kyoto University and his Ph.D. from the University of Marburg (Germany) with a thesis on the Master. On his return to Japan, he taught at the University of Kyoto, where he held the chair of Philosophy of Religion from 1977 until his retirement in 1989. Since then continues to teach in the same Kyoto University and the University of Hanazono and has intensified its contacts with Europe, where he has been a visiting professor and lectured at universities such as Marburg, Basel, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Tübingen, Munich , Vienna and Zurich. He has also participated in the annual Eranos circle in Ascona (Switzerland). His publications include two of his studies on the philosophy of Nishida Kitaro Nishida Reading (Tokyo, 1991) Experience and autodespertar (Tokyo, 1998), as well as numerous essays, some of them written in German, collected through time in eleven volumes by Iwanami publishing. 2001.
