This essay is a critical exposition of Bergsonian concepts through a story in which the problems and the authors are chained as characters in a plot in which we see the thought of Bergson, Epicurus, Plotinus, Spinoza or Aristotle hatch as something alive The latest results of the research on Bergson are made available to the reader to prepare the assault on one of the most ambitious and least understood books of the 20th century, Matter and Memory, where its author faces the challenge of thinking about the birth of consciousness. from a transcendental plane without a subject, thus inaugurating a path (that of overcoming modernity) that leads directly to the current philosophical moment.
The thinker who fascinated an entire era (the stormy first third of the last century) then reveals himself as a genuine heir to the philosophical tradition, but also as the dark precursor of some of the disputes in which the 21st century seems destined to end. entangle, such as overcoming subjectivity or the human condition, the search for a lost foundation (call it «nature», «community» or «God») or the uncritical embrace of a religion of «creativity ».
None of these difficulties is concealed in the text, which uses Bergson as a depth probe to scrutinize the origin and scope of these problems and, consequently, obeys the Epicurean mandate to try to attenuate the fascination and spell that contemporary superstitions exert on us.

Antonio Dopazo Gallego (Alicante, 1981) completed his studies in Philosophy at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he obtained extraordinary undergraduate and doctorate awards. He is a translator of Bergson and author of introductory books on the thought of Bergson himself, Plotinus and Descartes (Bathyscaphe, "Discover Philosophy" collection).
