The book "How to organize a film festival with social commitment, a manual for organizers of film events on human rights and the environment", in its Spanish version, arises from the adaptation of two volumes previously published by members of the Human Rights Film Network, with the intention of helping emerging festivals to take their first steps, collecting and systematizing successes and errors of some of the most representative events on the network. The DerHumALC Multimedia Institute (IMD), a non-profit association established for the defense and education of human rights and the environment through cinema, with more than 20 years of experience in Argentina, carried out a translation of the manual and a adaptation to the Latin American context to carry out this type of event.

This extension of the manual with interviews of Mexican experiences reveals the intention of increasing interest not only in the professionalization of the sector, but also in a host of experiences and stories that contribute their own imprint, opening a universe of contributions for those who are starting in the world of socially committed festivals.

In Mexico there are 143 festivals and film shows; and more than 500 Cineclubes. We are the fourth strongest industry in the world in terms of theater attendance and we have more than 6,633 physical screens to show films. But despite these "apparent achievements" and the belief that our production is armored, the national cinema has countless gaps to overcome in this way. Our national production amounted to 176 films in 2017 and of these, we distributed only 88. With 348 million tickets sold, the national average attendance is 2.82 tickets per Mexican, however we have more than 53 million Mexicans living in extreme poverty, which is rare have ever or never been to a movie theater. Our industry is uneven, it generates gaps, wealth for one and no access to others. We need cultural equality and that this right is guaranteed.
