We speak of an impasse to characterize the contemporary political situation, which requires a perceptual practice that places us beyond the representations used by the language of politics, essay, philosophy or the social sciences. And a sensitivity that drags us towards that time in suspense, in which every act falters, and where nevertheless everything that needs to be thought again occurs. A present that is revealed between the irony of the eternal return of the same and the infinitesimal preparation of a historical variation.

The impasse is above all an ambiguous temporality, where the creative dynamics that have encouraged an increasing social antagonism since the beginning of the 1990s have apparently stopped - the scope of which can be verified in the ability to remove the main gears of neoliberalism in much of the continent . We say that the arrest is apparent because it is not true that the antagonistic perspective has been completely diluted, much less that the collective dynamism is paralyzed. On the contrary, in the impasse elements of counter-power and capitalist hegemony coexist, according to promiscuous forms difficult to unravel.

Ambiguity thus becomes the decisive feature of the time and manifests itself in a double dimension: as a time of crisis that has no end in sight; as a scenario where heterogeneous social logics overlap, without any of them imposing their reign definitively.

The impasse describes a historical state of mind. And our way of situating ourselves in it is restlessness.
