
Kate Chopin was born in Saint Louis (Missori). At age 19 she married a New Orleans banker, a city where she spent most of her life. The southern United States is the background to his work. In 1880 he published his first novel, At Fault, which was followed by two books of stories, Bayou Folk and A Night in Arcadia; and, finally, in The Awakening, novel that is translated for the first time in Castilian in Hyperion Editions. The work, because of its content classified as "scandalous" and "femme", was the object of such strong attacks at the time of its publication, that the author renounced to continue his literary career. In fact, Kate Chopin died in 1904 without having published any new title. The awakening is reissued in 1906 and falls into the least innocent of the forgotten until 1969, in which is discovered the literary carving of Kate Chopin and reedita its complete work.
