Edgard de Bruyne (1898-1959), of Thomist formation, has written some of the fundamental works of the history of aesthetics and rhetoric of art. Among them, in Dutch language, his monumental History of aesthetics in five volumes (1950-1955), partially translated into Castilian; Before his Philosophy of art (1929, 19402, 19483). He is known above all for his studies of medieval aesthetics, in three volumes (1946), translated into Spanish in 1958 and 1959, which constitute the inexcusable book for anyone who wishes to know the various orientations of aesthetics in the Middle Ages.
