This book explores the complex relationships between the fields of philosophy and criticism, focusing on methodological, ideological and cultural aspects in which European canonical reflection connects, in many cases conflictively, with Latin American thought. Philosophy and criticism analyzes aspects of the work of influential modern thinkers (Benjamin, Foucault, Bourdieu, Sloterdijk) vis a vis the proposals of representative authors of Latin American philosophy (Mariátegui, Dussel, Bartra, Echeverría), trying to discover convergences and challenges between both slopes. Likewise, this volume focuses on crucial issues of our time: the crisis of humanism, the strategies of biopolitics, the problems of scarcity, violence, the critique of modernity, the world of affections and the challenges of globalization . The marked profile of Latin American thought is thus imprinting its brand in current debates, revealing the thriving force of intellectual currents that resist epistemic domination in search of renewed forms of collective emancipation. Mabel Moraña (Ph.D. University of Minnesota) currently holds the William H. Gass Chair of Arts and Sciences at Washington University, St. Louis, where she directs the Latin American Studies Program. She was previously a professor at Washington University, Seattle, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and University of Pittsburgh, where she headed the Hispanic Studies Department and was director of publications for the International Institute of Ibero-American Literature. She was visiting professor at University of California, Santa Cruz, Harvard University, University of the Andes, Bogotá, and University of the Republic, Uruguay, among others. He has lectured at the University of Buenos Aires, National University of Rosario, UNAM, University of Seoul, South Korea, and others. She is the author of more than fifteen books of cultural and literary criticism and has coordinated more than forty collective volumes on issues of culture, politics, ethics, violence and affection in Latin America. His book Arguedas-Vargas Llosa. Dilemmas and assemblies received the Ibero-American Prize from the Latin American Studies Association and the Katherine Kovacs Singer Award from the Modern Languages ​​Association. His latest book, The Monster as a War Machine, has been published in Spanish and English in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
