Corpopolitics and the geopolitics of knowledge (who can/should know) are central themes of this book. Both are crossed by the coloniality of being and knowledge. “Women,” “Indians,” and “blacks” were historically excluded from access to what was considered the summit of knowledge. However, while patriarchal culture legitimizes gender sexual oppression, this is not manifested or experienced in the same way for “women of color” in the United States (Lugones); as in Spanish/Moroccan geopolitics, with the differences that the Spanish health system makes in the treatment of Hispanic and Moroccan women (Jiménez-Lucena); or in the conflict between the Orthodox Christian culture of the Russian state and the Muslim culture of the Caucasus (Tlostanova). Both sex and gender are socially and historically constructed in ways that give rise to “gender systems” that complete the notion of patriarchy. The different "local stories" generate particular responses in each of these places, and it is from each of them that the three authors converge on the same idea that there cannot be a universal feminism dictated by the white feminism of Europe and the United States.
