Digital libraries are already today one of the main nodes of access to information on the Web, and this role is going to be reinforced in the new framework of European higher education as a catalyst for research and teaching. However, as large repositories of information constantly c rowth is necessary to provide digital library of mechanisms that are able to provide the information required by users in the most efficient way possible to meet their ever increasingly specific information needs . In this work we analyze how the application to digital libraries of new information technologies (such as Semantic Web technologies) can significantly improve the service provided to users. Also, are some of the tools necessary for their development, or can somehow complement (such as the fuzzy linguistic modeling). The description and analysis of the semantic Web model deserves a large section within the work, as this new technological paradigm is taking hold slowly as the model it evolve current web and open the way to the development of digital libraries semantics.
