The second volume outlines the development of culture in Europe from the grounds on which sits in the Carolingian period and progresses throughout the European Middle Ages, especially in Italy, France, Spain, Germany and England, reaching its maximum refining expansion and development in the sixteenth century closes with the intent of the Society of Jesus after the implementation of a teaching method valid for all European countries. Special attention was applied to the study of medieval institutions and the role especially the cathedral schools and grammar, as well as the nascent universities. It takes, of course, a prominent consideration of the contribution to Western culture of the great figures of the time: Abelard, Aquinas, Luther and Erasmus of Rotterdam.
