The awakening of the Teilhardian genius took place on the battlefields of the Great War. This "baptism in the real" led Teilhard de Chardin to write texts that constitute an essential key to understanding the subsequent evolution of his religious, philosophical and scientific thought. In the midst of the front butchery, where he serves as a stretcher and chaplain, the mystical soul of Teilhard opens up to the deep meaning of life, death, history or the cosmic Christ that becomes transparent in bloody matter. Teilhard writes a testimony, almost a testament. He does not communicate his writings more than a small number of people. He does not expect to be able to publish them. Everything he had seen, felt, thought, during that extraordinary period from which he emerged transformed, could he one day reveal it? This second volume of the Writings of the Time of the War contains the eight essays composed by Teilhard in 1918 and the five dated in 1919. Among them are two unpublished texts in Spanish, La gran monad and the Note to serve the evangelization of the new times. The latter begins with a "Warning" in which Teilhard writes: "Today there is, I am going to demonstrate, a very vigorous natural religious movement. Do we, who are Christians and priests, think that in order to influence him, to supernaturalize him (which is what the conversion of the Earth consists of), it is absolutely necessary that we participate [...] in his impulse, in his concerns and in your hopes? ». He was at the starting point of his great intellectual adventure.
