Television has been the subject of study and concern by a large number of social scientists, politicians, educators, and parents. One of the main reasons for this social and scientific follow-up is undoubtedly found in the effects that violent programming can cause on the recipients.
Television, violence and childhood is a contribution of the first order to the study of the effects of the media on children. Mª del Carmen García Galera carries out in this work an exhaustive compilation of the main theories and research on the effects of television and, particularly, those that have tried to explain the influence of television violence in childhood.
The author contrasts these theories with an empirical study carried out in Spain. It analyzes the degree of influence that the violence shown on television seems to exert on the behavior of children in our country, on their way of thinking and on their own emotions.
