The story of marriage between Zapotec and Aztec king Cocijoeza Coyolicatzin princess, daughter of the tlatoani Ahuízotl, is described in this paper as a legend and as a historical event. The events reported in this legend occurred several decades before the arrival of the Spaniards in the country. While it appear fantastic elements in the story, the text refers to very specific events: war and marriage alliance between Zapotec and Aztec kings, known through written or drawn immediately after the Conquest records.
