Alexis Charles Henri of Clerel, Vicomte de Tocqueville (Verneuil-sur-Seine, Ile de France, July 29, 1805 - Cannes, April 16, 1859) was a thinker, jurist, politician and historian French precursor of sociology classic and one of the most important ideologues of liberalism; also great-grandson of politician and minister of Louis XVI, Guillaume-Chrétien de Malesherbes Lamoignon.
