He studied in Rome with Pilo Albertelli and graduated in 1947 in Philosophy of Law. In 1964 he obtained the professorship in philosophy of law and the task of the History of Economic Thought and History of Political Thought at the University of Lecce.

In 1971 he became full professor of Philosophy of Politics and has taught at Salerno and the Istituto Universitario Orientale of Naples. Since 1976 he has taught for more than twenty years of Political Science in the Faculty of Sociology, University "La Sapienza" of Rome. Since 2000, again at the University "La Sapienza" of Rome, he was appointed professor emeritus.

On 23 May 2001 the University of Macerata awarded him an honorary degree in Political Science.
