Maine de Biran was certainly ahead of his time. Regarded as the philosopher of introspection and experiences of consciousness, the dynamism of his thought was leading him by successive "conversions" intellectuals who have left their mark on his writings, conversions that never made him lose the ultimate goal of their research and the consistency of his philosophical proposal.
The set of texts that the reader has in his hands is not only an excellent introduction to the thought of Maine de Biran, but a good summary of his philosophy.
By being written at the end of his life, this series of essays collected the few certainties was so busily acquiring the author. They will also discover the first seeds of phenomenology, philosophy of life and existentialism, which a century later burst forth strongly in the cultural landscape.
