Charles Asselineau born in Paris in 1820 and died in Châtelguyon in 1874. Son of a doctor, he began in his youth medical studies, but soon left to pursue his literary vocation. He collaborated in several magazines of his time, where among other things he published articles critical of art and stories. His bibliophile and erudite passion led him to rediscover and defend writers forgotten or little known by the public, among which Aloysius Bertrand and his great work Gaspard de la Nuit.
