In 1998, after his retirement, he was awarded the honorary researcher degree and directed his work towards the study of sexuality in the elderly. Parallel to this, he has also written the novels Los Bufalos, Los Hierarchs and Huesera, Abel Rodríguez and his brothers, My Friend Chantal, The Worlds of Circe (Prize of the National Book Council of Chile), Invisible Cages and Sebasto's Angels, Translated into languages such as German, French and Dutch.
