The expansion of Christianity in the Roman Empire remains an unknown to scholars. How could a mysterious group of the Eastern Mediterranean be developed to replace the well-known and well-financed cults that had the backing of the empire and the aristocracy? And how did the official religion become the fifth century? The logic of traditional responses highlights the height of the doctrine proposed by Christians, their passionate zeal, the effective proselytizing and even the sobriety of their moral proposal. Throughout this work an alternative logic is proposed, whose starting point is the practice of patience, a virtue that must shape those who request to become Christians. Added to this is the effort to change one's lifestyle (habitus), which requires a departure from the uses and customs of society. Finally, the obligation of catechesis and worship as means that witness the invisible action of God in history and help patiently persevere in the Christian option. The legacy of the first Church, which synthesizes the phrase of Cipriano: "We do not talk about sublime things, but put them into practice", recalls the need to revise the Christian way of life in society and recover patience as an expression of a peaceful, dialoguing and hopeful faith.
