Camil Petrescu (Bucharest, 1894-1957) studied philosophy in Bucharest. He taught, directed the National Theater of Bucharest and was an academic. He was a well-known playwright, poet and novelist, and is considered the father of the modern Romanian novel and one of the great European interwar novelists. His two great novels are The Bed of Procusto and Last Night of Love, First Night of War, forthcoming in Gadir.
