Of humanity's great geographical discoveries, knowledge of the exact location of the sources from which the mysterious Nile, one of the longest and most flowing rivers on Earth, flows from a very old era the curiosity and imagination of science men, travelers and geographers. In 1857, two daredevil adventurers, British military geographers, Captain Richard Francis Burton and his assistant, Captain Speke, obtained leave and financial resources from the omnipotent Royal Geographical Society of London to embark on their cherished adventure.
This work is an excerpt from Captain Burton's many diaries about that journey, and in it he describes us, from the point of view always surprised and curious of the traveler, the adventures, the difficulties (fevers, indigenous attacks, inexhaustible deserts...), the delirant landscapes of the virgin jungles, as well as the rites and customs of the African peoples that they found on the long and tortuous itinerary of that fabulous journey in search of the sources of the Nile.
