Roger Caillois (Reims, 1913-Paris, 1978) was a member of the surrealist group and founder, together with George Bataille, of the College of Sociology. After numerous trips through Europe, Asia
and America, in 1971 he entered the French Academy. During part of his life he lived in Argentina, where he established relationships with the intelligentsia linked to Sur magazine.
He was the French translator of Jorge Luis Borges and founded for Gallimard the mythical collection La Croix du Sud, in which many of the most prominent Latin American writers of the 20th century appeared.
