For four centuries the destiny of Descartes has been to see himself converted into that mirror in which, from time to time, Europe looked at itself trying to discover its own face. And, in fact, even today in the Discourse we can see pulsating in an eminent way values in which the West still wants to recognize itself: optimism of reason, demand for self-determination, vindication of one's own responsibility, autonomous humanism, exaltation of the will of the individual , solidarity and longing for justice, commitment to a better future for our gender and, above all, an incorruptible desire for freedom.
