
The speech of the voluntary bondage of Étienne de la Boétie (1530-1563) comes to light in the convulsory intellectual universe of the French Protestantism of the sixteenth century, which sees in it a pamphlet against tyranny and oppression. On the behalf of Michel de Montaigne, who left a testimony of friendship without a couple about the work and the person of the Boétie. Montaigne was also the first link at the reception of this written controversial that faces the disconcerting paradox that the natural freedom of man is removed by his own and unwavering willingness of him.
