Valentín Escudero

Valentin Escudero. Professor of Psychology at the University of A Coruña, and director of the Family Care and Intervention Research Unit at said university. He is also an Adjunct Clinical Professor (honorary position) at the State University of New York, University at Albany, USA. He has been a Visiting Professor for three years (2007-2010) at the VUB (Vrije Universitate Brussels) in Brussels. He was a Visiting Researcher at the Center for Family Policy and Child Welfare, School for Policy Studies, University of Bristol, UK (2006-2007). He is co-author of the SOFTA (System for Observing Family Therapy Alliances) one of the prevailing models today for the analysis of the therapeutic alliance with couples and families.

Systemic family intervention in the context of social services and child protection occupies a priority place in his clinical and research work. He has conducted training and supervision for social services and child protection teams and programs in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Poland, England, and Belgium. For 9 years he has been the director of the Therapeutic Treatment Program for Minors at Risk and Helplessness, in which 8 professional teams care for minors referred by the Galician Child Protection system.

Valentín Escudero has multiple publications. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Family Therapy and has published his research papers in journals such as Family Process, Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, Psychotherapy, Psychotherapy Research, or Journal of Counseling Psychology. His manuals and his intervention guides are widely used in social services.
