María Belmonte Barrenechea was born in Bilbao; She studied History at the University of Deusto and Anthropology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In 1995 she received her doctorate from the Department of Social Anthropology of the University of the Basque Country (San Sebastián) with a thesis on the History of Religions. She works professionally as a technical-literary translator. She has published in Acantilado Pilgrims of Beauty. Travelers through Italy and Greece (2015), The paths of the sea. A Journey on Foot (2017) and In the Land of Dionysus. Wanderings in Northern Greece (2021). She has lived in various cities, on a Mediterranean island and currently resides in Font-Rubí (Barcelona).
