Violence is a phenomenon that has accompanied women and men throughout history. Different societies have visualized and documented it in different ways; Examples of this are literature and poetry.

This document exposes the different types of violence exercised by men on women in the rural areas of two micro-territories: the municipality of Zacatecas, Mexico, and the municipality of Chía, which makes up the department of Cundinamarca in Colombia.

The exposure of this scourge of humanity in the territories studied begins with marital violence (the existing literature usually denounces extreme sexual assaults in environments other than the home such as the church, the street, the company or others), which manifests itself in insults, yelling, pushing and even hitting, rape and feminicide both at home and in the community as well as in public institutions and at work.

Rural violence against women in the territories studied is a public problem that is intimately silenced since, in the words of one victim, “no one has to know what happens to me,” and there are no divorces “because when I got married I made a commitment to life and for my children.” Aggressions are therefore tolerated; Although “men are socially adapted, privately they are aggressive” (testimony of Soledad, July 23, 2018).
