Since the 1970s, cities have been subject to spatial reconfiguration due to the implementation of public policies of neoliberal urbanism, in which the city is conceived and administered privileging financial returns to the detriment of common benefit.

Mexican cities, in their post-industrial development and in the face of globalization, have opened a wide field of study of divergent and contesting urban narratives that question public policies and their planning tendencies in priority and limited terms of infrastructure, urban equipment and occupation. from the earth. Thus, culture plays a central role in urban development as a powerful instrument of protest in disputes over the city.

This book critically analyzes the implications of the epistemological paradigms of the modern city applied to the appropriation, significance, habitation and domination of contemporary urban territories and their consequences in terms of social inclusion and exclusion, and collects the results of research and criticisms regarding the sociocultural problems faced by cities affected by the economic and political demands of globalization.

In this way, in the collaborations included here, specialists from various disciplines reflect on the relationships between urban development and culture and the forces of capital, as well as on the transformation of relations between the public and private sectors in the growth of the city and its social impact.

The authors refer mainly to the city of Puebla but in dialogue with other similar experiences in Brazilian cities, the city of Barcelona and Mexico City.

This book participates in the critical debate about the risks and opportunities that Latin American cities must face in the near future.
