In this book a rapid exploration of critical psychology is carried out. David Pavón-Cuéllar offers a text that simultaneously serves as an introductory study, analytical outline, historical overview, panoramic vision and guiding map for those interested in the subject.

After reflecting on what critical psychology is, its antecedents in philosophical speculation and political discussion are reconstructed. Next, some contributions from Lev Vygotsky and Georges Politzer, Freudo-Marxism, the Frankfurt School and the radical psychological current are presented. Next, after examining the imprint of Althusserianism on critics of psychology such as Michel Pêcheux, Didier Deleule, Carlos Sastre and Néstor Braunstein, the author addresses three paradigms of critical psychology in the last quarter of the 20th century: the Foucauldian, the Holzkamp school and the postmodern social-critical socio-constructionist, relativist and discursive or collective of Rom Harré, Kenneth Gergen, Jonathan Potter and others. The historical overview ends with an assessment of the crisis of postmodernism, evident since the end of the 20th century, and with a consideration of the two critical realist alternatives that the author considers most important for the 21st century: on the one hand, in Latin America, psychology of liberation and community social; On the other hand, in the British sphere, the option of Ian Parker.

In a current assessment, the major current theoretical orientations into which the revised traditions lead are considered. Finally, to show the validity of the politicization of critical psychology, its anti-capitalist, anti-racist, anti-colonial, anti-patriarchal and anti-normative positions are discussed.
