Members of a Basque community in New Spain, through the Brotherhood of “Our Lady of Aránzazu” in Mexico City, since the dawn of the 18th century, channeled part of their wealth to carry out charitable works. What was notable and surprising was the unusual interest of members of this community to establish a school for women, under the auspices of the aforementioned brotherhood.

After a process of reflection on the historical path of the 18th century, they recognized that every woman had the right to acquire knowledge in the broadest sense of the word. Women would have valuable intellectual tools to stand out even in the midst of adversity and prejudice.
