This volume brings together more than eighty articles that José Revueltas published between August 1941 and December 1942 in the column "La Marea de Los Días" (The Tide of the Days) in the newspaper V Popular. In these texts, previously unknown and now recovered for the enjoyment of his readers, the young writer observes, analyzes, and comments on the turbulent situation in Mexico at the time and one of the most decisive phases of World War II. Likewise, this journalistic space served as a textual laboratory for the novel he was writing during that period: El luto humano (Human Mourning).

By reading these articles, one can reconstruct relevant events in Mexican and world history of the early 1940s and delineate a picture of the evolution of Revueltas's narrative, in particular, and his political thought, in general. We don't know why its author chose not to sign this column, so compelling from an ideological perspective and, even more so, from a literary one: all the recovered texts are characterized by a precise command of language and an essayistic style imbued with lyricism. These are also signs of a passionate life, constantly fraught with tension and subject to the ebb and flow of time.
