Giuseppe Bonno

Giuseppe Bonno

Giuseppe Bonno (Vienna, Austria, January 29, 1711 - ibid., April 15, 1788) was an Austrian composer of Italian origin.

He was born in Vienna and studied music in Naples with Francesco Durante and Leonardo Leo. Later he moved back to Vienna to become the composer of the court, and worked as a chapel teacher to the Prince of Saxony-Hildburghausen in the 1750s and 1760s.

The works of Bonno are practically unknown today, but he was a prominent figure in the musical life of the Vienna of his time and his works were often depicted. Most of his pieces are vocal, including oratorios, masses and other sacred works, as well as operas, among which are some collaborations with Metastasio.
