Yoko Ogawa was born in Okayama, in the homonymous prefecture, and graduated from Waseda University. She currently lives in Ashiya, Hyogo, with her husband and son. Since 1988 she has published works of fiction and non-fiction. Her novel The Professor's Favorite Formula has been adapted for film.
