Born in Russia, he is one of the most renowned Tchaikovsky scholars. He lives and works in the United States, at Yale University, where he is a librarian of Slavic and Eastern European languages. Author of numerous books and articles about the composer, translated into various languages such as Russian and German, his latest publications include the two volumes of The Tchaikovsky Handbook (2002).
