Alexéi Nikoláyevich Tolstói (1883-1945) was a Russian writer known above all for his science fiction works and his historic novels. His first books were poemaries framed in the symbolist current, as lyric (1907), but he soon abandoned poetry for prose. Within this he cultivated numerous genres such as comedy, drama, autobiography, science fiction or historical novel. Between the works of him eccentric (1910), Mr. Cojo (1912); Aelita (1923) and the hyperboloid of Engineer Garin (1927), trilogy pilgrimage by pain paths (1922-1941) or the inconclusive biography of him on Pedro I (1919-1935). He was a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences since 1939.
