Brandon Taylor is an art historian with research interests in modern and contemporary art, the history of art institutions, and post-revolutionary Russian and East European art.
He has held research appointments at Yale University, the Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles, and the Institute of Art History, Prague. His books include Art and Literature Under the Bolsheviks (1991 and 1992), The Art of Today (1995), Art for the Nation: Exhibitions and the London Public (1999), Collage: The Making of Modern Art (1994), Art Today (2005), and Sculpture and Psychoanalysis (edited 2006). His curated exhibitions include Elements of Abstraction: Space, Line and Interval in Modern British Art (Southampton 2005) and Against Grids (Liverpool 2010). He recently published After Constructivism (2014) and is currently working on an exhibition of artists working in St Ives.
As a painter who exhibits infrequently he is interested in the dialogue of two and three dimensions, and particularly in the legacies of Russian formalism and Constructivism.
