Carlos Martínez

Carlos Martínez (San Salvador, 1979) has been a journalist for almost two decades. He has published in media such as The New York Times, Gatopardo Magazine or Siglo XXI, and part of his work has been collected in non-fiction books such as The Best of Latin American Journalism II; Anthology of current Latin American chronicles; Black Chronicles: from a region that does not count or Stories to remember.

He has received numerous awards for his work and has specialized in coverage of the gang phenomenon in Central America —particularly the Mara Salvatrucha-13 and Barrio 18— and the region's prison systems. Since 2014 he is part of the team responsible for the content of the Central American Journalism Forum, which is organized every year and is the most important journalism event in the region.

He is currently part of the investigation team on violence in Central America, Sala Negra, of the digital newspaper El Faro.
