Cees Nooteboom (The Hague, 1933) is one of the greatest and most original contemporary Dutch writers. He lives in constant nomadism between Holland, Spain and Germany. Translator Spanish, Catalan, French, German poetry; American theater; author of novels, poetry, essays and travel books, is a writer concerned Europeanism and nationalism.
He has received, among others, Bordewijk Award and the Pegasus Prize for Literature, and the Gold Medal of the Fine Arts in Madrid. In France it has been made a Knight of the Legion of Honor.
In recent years it has received the European Prize for Poetry (2008), the Dutch Literature Prize (2009) and the highest prize awarded in travel literature, the Chatwin Award (2010).
