Born in Buenos Aires, he has been professor of anthropology at Karlsruhe. Currently he is a member of the Scientific Council for International Studies at Harvard University and directs the program for dialogue between cultures and civilizations of the Schloss Neuhardenberg (Berlin) Foundation.
