Constantine P. Cavafy (Greek Κωνσταντίνος Πέτρου Καβάφης, Konstantinos Petrou Cavafy Alexandria, Egypt. April 29, 1863 - April 29, 1933) was a Greek poet, one of the most important literary figures of the twentieth century and one of the greatest exponents revival of modern Greek language. He worked as a journalist and as an officer, and published relatively little in life, but after his death his work gradually became influential. His atypical -strongly urban and introspective themes, and openly about the homosexual orientation of the poet delayed its acceptance, but then became, in the 1960s, an icon of gay culture
