Darío Villanueva (Vilalba, 1950) is a professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela, of which he was rector between 1994 and 2002. He chairs the "Spanish Society of General and Comparative Literature" and directs the scientific council of the Miguel de Cervantes Virtual Library as well as the collection of Classical Spanish Authors of the Castro Library. His latest books include Theories of Literary Realism (1992; 2004; English edition, New York, 1997) and Valle-Inclán, novelist of Modernism (2005).
