Derek Thompson. McLean (USA), 1986. Thompson is senior editor of The Atlantic magazine, where he writes on American economics and politics, media and money. Whether he's analyzing labor markets, entertainment or government issues, or changes in generational spending and voting habits, Thompson offers sophisticated insights into the real interests of the people. He is the author of the iconic story A World without Work (2015), a broad exploration of the future of artificial intelligence and jobs, and how Americans could cope with a jobless future. He is a regular contributor to NPR's "Here and Now" and appears frequently on various television and radio channels including CBS News Radio, BBC and CNBC. He lives in New York City. He is also editor-in-chief for Business Channel, where he writes on economic policy, technology, or the media industry, although his writings may include allusions to romantic comedies. Thompson graduated from Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism with a triple major in journalism, political science, and legal studies. He has written for numerous outlets and magazines such as Slate, Business Week, and The Daily Beast. He has received several awards, including the 2016 Best in Business award in the Columns and Commentary category, awarded by the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.
